Paddington is the first stop in London for many visitors. The Heathrow Express arrives here, the Elizabeth line crosses the city from here, and trains run in from Oxford, Bath and the West Country. It is also a pleasant area to explore, with canals, cafés and Hyde Park close by. This short guide covers what to see around Paddington and how to get there from Presidential Serviced Apartments in Kensington, 8 minutes away on the District line.
Paddington is one of London's main railway stations. The Heathrow Express runs non-stop to Heathrow in about 15 minutes. The Elizabeth line runs east to Bond Street, Tottenham Court Road and Canary Wharf, and west to Reading and Heathrow. Great Western Railway trains go to Oxford, Bath, Bristol and Cardiff, which makes Paddington the starting point for many day trips. On the Underground, Paddington is served by the Bakerloo, Circle, District and Hammersmith & City lines.

Paddington Bear sits in bronze on Platform 1, under the station clock, and is a favourite photo stop for families. You can read more in our guide to Paddington Bear in London.
Behind the station, Paddington Basin has canal-side cafés and restaurants, moored narrowboats and two unusual footbridges, the Rolling Bridge and the Fan Bridge. It is a quiet place for a coffee before a train.
About 10 minutes' walk along the canal, Little Venice is where the Grand Union and Regent's canals meet. Expect painted narrowboats, waterside pubs and boat trips towards Camden Lock.
Lancaster Gate, on the north side of Hyde Park, is about 10 minutes' walk from the station. From there you can stroll through Kensington Gardens to the Italian Gardens and the Peter Pan statue.
