Films in the Open Air this Summer in London

An evening relaxing with a film is always a great way to spend your time.  What makes it even better is when you can enjoy the fresh air at the same time.  Thankfully it’s possible even in the heart of London. If you are a visitor, you should opt to stay in one of the holiday apartments Kensington London and mare sure to watch a film in the open air.

Across the city, there are countless places where you can go and watch a film; you don’t even have to pay!

London Bridge City is set to celebrate summer by the River with a fiesta of food, drinks and free films such as The Greatest Showman and Guardian of the Galaxy.  Sitting back in The Scoop, watching a top film as the Thames meanders past and superb views of Tower Bridge and the Tower of London – what more could you want on warm summer evening?

Equally fun is the Luna Cinema, which will be operating from venues all over London including Greenwich Park, Kensington Palace, Regents Park, Kew Gardens.  You can bring a picnic or opt for a snack from the onsite food stalls before watching films like Shaun of the Dead and Four Weddings and a funeral.  With venues like this, an evening at the Luna Cinema is guaranteed to be extremely atmospheric and memorable.

Throughout August, the courtyard of one of the most historic and spectacular buildings in London becomes an impromptu cinema. Book a stay at any of the service apartments in London central and take a look at what is available on the Film 4 Summer Screen, located at Somerset House on the Strand.  This is definitely one of the most classy outdoor screenings available, and will even include various red carpet premieres.  Booking in advance is recommended as this is an extremely popular venue.  But one word of warning – bring a cushion!  The courtyard cobbles can be very uncomfortable.

Anyone who prefers a rooftop venue should explore the options presented by the Rooftop Cinema Club which operates from venues in Shoreditch, Peckham, Stratford and Tobacco Dock five nights a week.  If your attention slips away from the film to the stunning views around, you can be forgiven as each location offers 360 degree panoramic views across the city!  Even on cooler nights, you can really enjoy being outside for several hours as comfy chairs and blankets are provided, along with wireless headphones so you don’t miss any of the script.

For something even more different, you could try a ‘Movies on the River’ Cruise.  Starting from Tower Pier, City Cruises are operating a variety of boat trips along the Thames.  The sound of lapping water as the boats ply their way downriver provides a fantastic backdrop to classic films like Top Gun, Dunkirk and Casablanca.
